Sports 101: Overview

From one of the nation's loudest NFL stadiums to one of NASCAR's newest racing destinations, sports never go out of season in Kansas City. So pick your passion, Kansas City has a sport to match.

The crack of the bat signals springtime has arrived when the Kansas City Royals open the season at Kauffman Stadium. The crowd roars for the "boys in blue" as giant fountains cascade just beyond the outfield wall. On the opposite side of the metro area, the Kansas City T-Bones have built a loyal fan following at their ballpark in Village West.

Arrowhead Stadium belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs August through January. During football season, the stadium parking lot transforms into the world's largest tailgate party--complete with everyone's version of Kansas City barbecue.

From April through September, major league soccer's Kansas City Wizards take to the field. This season they will play at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, while their new soccer stadium is being built in Kansas City.

Head Downtown for more action. The city's professional tennis team, the Kansas City Explorers , take over Barney Allis Plaza each July. Craving more football? Pigskin season is extended in Kansas City as the Kansas City Brigade play indoors at the new Sprint Center.

The Sprint Center is a state-of-the-art arena that plays host to major sporting events. Attached to the arena is the new College Basketball Experience. The CBE features the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as well as an interactive fan area. For more sports history, check out the nationally recognized Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, a one-of-a-kind experience.

So, no matter whether you love sports history, today's top players or the sporting champions of tomorrow, it's game time in Kansas City.
